Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the delivery time for a translation?

The duration of the work depends on the length of the texts. As a rule of thumb: 8 pages per day.

But the customers speak English anyway...

Possibly most of your clients speak English, but if you create your marketing material and web site only in English, then this is not very surprising.

Search engines (for example Google) promote search results in the language that was used in the search. That means that if you use a webbrowser that is set to (for example) German and if you search for a word that is the same in both languages (for example "taxi"), web pages in German will be preferred by the search engine. Search engines also use the size of the content as a measure to rate websites. A web site with 10 translations have 10 time more content, thereby the web page content is larger and the web site appears further up in the search results.

There are also search engines that are specialized on non-English languages (for example Yandex for Russian - with 64% market share in Russia, or Baidu for Chinese - with 63% market share in China). In these search engines, English-only pages are even further down the list than in search engines run by US-American companies - if they are shown at all.

The translation of your web site (and other marketing material) will bring you new customers in these ways:

  • Many people do not use English to search in the Internet. If you do not offer your product in that language, your web page will not show up in a web search - regardless of whether that person speaks English or not.
  • Even if many or most customers speak English as a second language, most people prefer to be addressed in their native language. Especially in areas with fierce competition, this can distinguish your web pages from the others.
  • Although English is taught in many countries, the language proficiency is often not enough to make an informed decision about a product description, especially if people have to decide whether to buy a product or not.

Which file formats can be translated?

We can work with almost all common formats and we are also very flexible with proprietary formats. In addition to the ordinary formats (DOCX, ODT, XLSX, ODS), we can also handle formats that are a problem for others, for example image formats (GIF, PNG, JPG), vector graphics (SVG), source code (PHP, Python, Javascript, C, etc. etc.) or countless other formats (SQL, SGML, XML). Unless otherwise agreed, we create the translations in the same format in which we receive the original.
